Burke Family Mini Break

Friday afternoon we headed down to NJ to visit with Aunt Chrissy & Scott. The drive down wasn't too bad, despite the rain and mild traffic. We used our new GPS to help us find our way. Norah did great in the car. She was awake until about 9:45, singing to us and practicing her "E, I, E , I, O."
When we arrived, Scott & Chrissy were anxiously awaiting Norah. This was the first time that they had met! Norah stayed up with us until about midnight, snacking on cheese and pepperoni. In hind sight this may have been at bad idea. She had no interest in going to bed! So, in shifts, Tom & I were up with her until 4am!!!
With a bit of rest, we awoke to yummy bagel, lox and the fixin's that Scott spread out for us. After our late morning breakfast, the five of us headed out to Sandy Hook for a bike ride along the beautiful bike path. We parked at Fort Hancock. This used to be an active military fort during the Civil War and a Nike site during the cold war. After our ride, Norah fell asleep so Chrissy & I hung with her while Scott & Tom took a tour of a light house. Tom was excited to see the boiler room!
In the afternoon (after mom napped) we went for lattes and a sweet treat at a local coffee shop. Later, in the evening we went into Red Bank and walked around. We looked in shop windows and enjoyed the live music that was being played on various blocks. We brought home meatball subs, salad and chicken nuggets which we enjoyed on Scott & Chrissy's deck.
Saturday night we all got a good sleep. This was a good thing for all! Mom & Norah took and early walk so the others could sleep a bit longer. Brunch with Clara, Katie, Martina, Richard, Pat & Conrad was delicious. We had fun visiting. Norah had a blast playing with the girls.
The ride home was long, due to heavy traffic in NYC but we made it home safely. Norah was great in the car, not losing her patience until we hit Providence.
