We left our house at 7am and just made the 8:15 am boat.
Once on the vineyard we took the shuttle to the new Ag Hall where the festival was being held. We got to see a couple of llamas, a few sheep, many mohair goats (including some of the new kids born in February) and several dogs.
We met lots of nice people, including a few people that I have "met" on Ravelry. We watched as the sheep and the older goats where shorn (sheared?). The sheep are shorn once a year and the goats are shorn twice. At this time the animals also get their toe nails cut and they are given a medicine that fights worms. The goats also receive a delouser that fights a specific type of lice that like mohair. Who knew that lice knit?
Norah had a really great time. She walked on the grass, played in the dirt, picked up rocks and sticks and met a few friendly dogs. Mom bought her a felted rattle as a souvenir. Norah also made a friend. She and Nathanial were inseparable. I literally had to peel her out of his arms.
We were both pretty tired when we got home but we had such a wonderful time. We look forward to going back again to visit the Martha's Vineyard Fiber Farm. You can see the rest of the pictures on flickr.
